The original version of this project was made with an assortment of autumnal colored prints. For this remix, we're showing you how it looks in a cohesive collection, Pumpkin Spice Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings, which is shipping to shops this month! Check out the other mock ups I have to share at the end of this post, too. You can make the blocks extra scrapy too depending on your preference.
This project uses a two different blocks and two different backgrounds. The alternating low volume prints create a subtle stripe effect in the background for added interest in the finished project. One other unique thing about this pattern is that we will use a partial seam to piece the top together. Fortunately, this is easier than it seems and I have a YouTube series of short videos available for this project to help!
We are piecing some small leaf blocks! I always suggest being careful when pressing, checking the size, and trimming as needed as I sew together smaller blocks.
In addition to the leaves, you also need pumpkins. Be sure to reference the pattern for which side of the pumpkin each background print should be on.
Once your blocks are made, follow the directions in the pattern and/or reference this video on joining the units with partial seams.
I decided to add some free motion quilting (FMQ) using my domestic machine for this project. (In the original, I used a walking foot to make some wavy lines across the table runner.) Sometimes, these smaller projects are a great opportunity to practice FMQ and try out different designs when there isn't as much to wrangle around under your machine. :)
I really love how this one turned out especially with the warm cream of these background prints.
I have included a couple of mock ups in other new collections coming soon from Moda: Acorn Hollow by Basic Grey (available May) and Daisy Lane by Kansas Troubles, which has been out for several months. Which one is your favorite?
If your local shop is carrying one of these collections, ask them to kit one up for you or help you select prints from another collection that catches your eye!
Next month, we will be making the Legacy Pattern. I will meet you back here on June 19th!
