Last minute gifts...
Because there is still time! And because the traffic at the mall is crazy.
Ever since Lisa and Sarah of A Spoonful of Sugar posted this little gift bag tutorial in 2011, it's been one of my favorites little things to make. They're relatively fast, relatively easy and you probably already have everything you need to make them.
A Spoonful of Sugar Fabric Gift Pouch:

I made one teeny, tiny, itty-bitty change... instead of using the size squares they specify, I used Layer Cake squares. The pre-cuts make a fast project a little bit easier. The upside is that one Layer Cake is 42 squares so...
Twenty-one gift pouches. If I wanted to use them for an Advent Calendar, I only need six more squares. Gift bags? Easily done. Something to put at each place for Christmas dinner? How many guests are coming? They're also perfect for any kind of gift-giving occasion. And they could be used to corral small items in a travel bag.
The tutorial is terrific - Lisa and Sarah are known for that - and they share several ways of embellishing the bags.
Okay, I might have made a second teeny, tiny, itty-bitty change... I added a piece of lightweight fusible interfacing to one of the squares. (Either the Face It Soft by Sew Lazy or Pellon 206F.) I like the extra bit of "body" the interfacing gives the finished pouch. The extra layer does add some thickness at the top and the opening doesn't close quite as tightly, but I like how the rest of the pouch feels.
To add the interfacing, cut a square 5/8" smaller than the size of the fabric square - a 9-3/8" square of interfacing for the layer cake square. The interfacing is centered on the wrong side of the outer-fabric and fused to the fabric.
Pretty cute! Especially out of this awesome Swell Christmas collection by Urban Chiks.

That's it for today - we've got bolts and fabric to count for Inventory. I always enjoy doing it because... hanging out in the warehouse surrounded by fabric? What's not to love about that?!
Happy Tuesday!
