BH5 – Group 2, Block 25 – Corey Yoder
Happy Blockheads Wednesday! It’s Week 25 (out of 30!) of Blockheads 5, Group 2, and today’s guest designer is Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts. Corey is a Blockheads regular, and she also designed a lovely block for Group 1 of Blockheads 5. Corey’s block this week is called Bordered Star, and it’s a great design with – you guessed it – a striped border effect, which offers lots of possibilities for adding a new accent or contrasting color into your block. You could also go for an ombre effect using solids or tonal prints.
We’ve got a fun video doubleheader for you this week, so keep reading for the full scoop!

Last week, we teased that we were working on a fun video twist for Blockheads this week, and we’re excited to share it with you all today! We have teamed up with Corey for a video doubleheader. First up is Moda Lissa with our Blockheads tutorial: Lissa is sharing her tips and tricks for making Corey’s Bordered Star block, including how to use Doug Leko’s Mini Simple Folded Corners ruler for getting perfect stitch-and-flip corners. Be sure to check out Lissa’s block tutorial below (you’ll also get a good look at her setting for Blockheads 5!):
And then after you’ve watched the tutorial to make your Bordered Star block, head over to Corey’s YouTube channel for her exclusive video tutorial on turning that block into a pillow! Corey will be showcasing her beautiful Starberry fabrics for her tutorial. This block makes such a cute pillow – you’ll definitely want to make an extra block so that you can make the pillow too! Be sure to check out Corey’s video below:
Are you ready to see our blocks?
Lissa is using a mix of Nantucket Summer, Shoreline, and some assorted low-volume prints for her blocks and setting.
Alison made a 6” patriotic version using several Moda Basics and a 12” scrappy fall version.
Annie is using Ruby Star Society prints and basics for her 12” blocks!
Now…off you go to press, cut, and sew! And don’t forget to share your blocks with us in our Facebook group or on Instagram (#modablockheads5)!
